snow turns to sleeton a cold sunshiny daythen to snow and gone
i hear the windbut i don't feel the wind:the trees protect me
woodpecker on a logflies away and returns later --maybe they missed me
along my journeya song by Journeykeeps on turning
the fire burnsfor a minute then fades --needs rekindling
5 a.m. sunrisethe birds awaken --i drowse to their music
on the tablea jelly-filled donut -- no, better:vanilla cream!
no mice or rabbitsno dragons or unicorns--nothing but blue
i wonder whethermy final dream will be colorfulor only blackness
dinosaur sculpturerusting on the side of the roadunder the Texaco sign
tapping at the treethe woodpecker finds no foodbut continues tapping
the sun lights the posthalfway up -- darkening moreas midday approaches
banana in the bowlblueberries in the sink --oatmeal preparation
wondering out loudwhere will we finally settle?the walls say nothing
the house is cleanexcept for the cobwebsremnants of past lives
on the floor in piecesgrandmother's favorite cupnow everything's gone
laughter of childrenrunning through frost-covered grassdodging the gravestones
i yank the door shutand it closes with a soft click --victory!
i wonder how manydegrees of separation i amfrom the northern lights
dancing lightit's all dancing lightuntil the darkness
