Fálki posted the prompt “shapeshifting” in her Mighty Network. That made me think of clouds, so I went outside to look at the clouds, and there were none.
I love the original concept that haiku is an observed thing, not a made up or imagined thing, so when I am able to write a haiku of something I directly observe in the moment, that makes me happy.
So it was fun to go outside with the idea that I’d look up at the clouds and see shapes of animals (or something) shifting in the air currents. But there were no clouds. So I was able to observe the sky, anticipating clouds, and not find any. Then, in describing the clouds’ absence in the haiku, I was able to mention cloud shapes I’d seen in the past, while still honoring the present moment.
