5 a.m. sunrise
the birds awaken —
i drowse to their music
NOTES
I slept out in the trailer, a 12-foot Aliner Scout, with the cats last night. It was cold — down to 35 Fahrenheit / 2 Celsius, but I wanted to keep the cats company. (And, yes, we have a small heater in there, as well an electric blanket.)
I am compelled to explain that the cats are in the trailer to (1) get them back into trailer mode, because we are hitting the road again tomorrow, and (2) keep them out of the way as we clean the house we’ve been renting for the winter.
The sun rises early in northern Maine. 5:01am today, to be precise, here in Island Falls.
As soon as I woke, I looked at Fálki’s Mighty Network to get the creative prompt, and it was “sunflower”, which paired well with my early sunrise, but I fell in and out of sleep for a bit longer.
I wrote this haiku when I finally disengaged from my drowsiness, around 6:30am.
