in his final breath not a lifetime of shining just a shimmer
NOTES
This haiku was inspired by Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep, which I just finished reading.
SPOILER ALERT: In the book there is a band of vampires who survive by breathing in the steam of people with the shining. The steam is released as the people are killed.
Thence the last two lines in my haiku, although I altered the context to be more of a death poem of, if not regret, then a downplaying of the importance of the dying person’s life.
