NOTES
While I’m not terribly careful about matching my haiku syllable counts to the traditional 5-7-5 format of English-language haiku, I do tend to want the first and last lines to be shorter than the one in the middle.
I’m happy that I can allow myself the occasional liberty of ignoring that principle, because this haiku flows better the way I’ve written it.
Is it still haiku? I choose to believe so. Your opinion may vary.
