Savage Mistress:
a team that imploded
as all teams implode
NOTES
I fell in love with longform improv in the Spring of 2017. I began taking classes, and from that first class at Alamo City Improv in San Antonio, Texas, sprang my first improv team (or troupe, if you prefer), Savage Mistress.
The name came from my misunderstanding of team member Gina Hughes as we conversed across the seats in a rather loud setting. She said she thought “Savage Misfits” would be a good name, but I heard something different. “Savage Mistress?” I said, “I love it!”
The other members of Savage Mistress were Crystal Jackson, Hilary Ryan-Lucas, and Darrel Phillips.
We went on to become a house team for Alamo City Improv and we performed at the 2017 OKC Improv Festival.
Long story short: We broke up shortly after that.
This haiku was spurred by the prompt “skull” in the Creating Daily group at Fálki’s Mighty Network. The prompt made me think about Savage Mistress, because this was our logo. The logo was created by one of my favorite songwriter/musicians, Javi Garcia, who now mostly spends time with his family and designs knives.
