tiny frog in a puddle
hops three times to grass and leaves
without saying goodbye
NOTES
We — Fálki and I and our two cats — are camped by a pond in far northern Maine, just outside Fort Kent, a border town.
It’s beautiful here. We are Hipcamped on land that is privately owned, so we are all by ourselves in the cool Maine summer.
The coolness is very welcome. We have been accustomed to very hot summers, having lived in San Antonio, Texas, for many years.
Here in Fort Kent, today’s forecast calls for sunny with a high of 73 and an overnight low of 49. (Those are degrees Fahrenheit.) In San Antonio today they are projecting 103 for the high and 78 for the low. The projected low temperature in San Antonio is 5 degrees warmer than our high. We love it!
Anyway, about the frog. The other day it had rained. We have a mosquito tent up near the pond. It’s not ours. The land owner said someone had left it, and we were welcome to put it up, so I did.
ASIDE: I can see why they left it! It was a pain to put together! Newer popups are the thing now.
I walked around the tent after the rain and saw a small flap on the ground that collects water, so I stepped on the edge to drain it, and a frog hopped out!
I love nature!
I didn’t get a photo of the frog, but this is our campsite. You can stay there to, via Hipcamp.
