red morning sky —
a tulip opens
a tree dies
NOTES
Recently the skies have been red in much of the northern tier of the United States due to wildfires in Canada. The thought of all those trees dying is a bit sickening to me, but it’s the way of nature, even when it’s caused by humans. I don’t know what caused these fires, but I recall last year the wildfires in Santa Fe, New Mexico, were started as a controlled burn gone wrong.
I wrote a different version of this at Fálki’s Mighty Network sparked by the prompt “red wave”:
red morning sky —
the sun opens a tulip
fire kills a tree
I like that well enough, but I wanted a better contrast between the tulip and the tree, because their activities are the important pieces, not the actors upon them. Also, the red sky is my indicator of a change in the environment, and its presence shows how the life and death of flora can be affected or unaffected by the same environmental factors.
