NOTES
Fálki’s prompt today at her Mighty Networks community (called Falcon & Acorn) was “firebird”, and immediately my thoughts went to one of my passions, disc golf.
DISCLAIMER: If you don’t know much about disc golf, the following will probably make little sense to you.
I discovered disc golf in December 2019 and immediately fell in love. The game hits all my buttons: it’s challenging, inexpensive, and involves a lot of walking. As I explored the game, I bought all kinds of discs in all kinds of plastics, to the point that I had storage issues for all the discs I owned. I knew I needed to simplify.
Enter my favorite pro disc golfer, Philo Brathwaite. I watched a short video he did, I think it was an in-the-bag video, about which discs he throws and why, and I noticed that he has maybe 6 different molds in his bag. I was carrying more than that, and owned even more. I knew I needed to simplify.
So, since I was already primarily throwing Innova discs, I decided to go with Innova, with Yeti Pro Aviar as my putter, R-Pro Pig as my short approach, Roc as my mid, Firebird and Thunderbird as my fairways, and Wraith as my distance driver. That decision made my life so much easier!
In case you didn’t notice, “Firebird” is one of my discs, and “firebird” was the prompt Fálki offered today. Now, why I chose to write about my Thunderbird instead of my Firebird, especially because, of the two, the Firebird is the pink one, I am not sure, but Thunderbird popped into my head, so that disc is the focus of this haiku.
This, btw, is a haiku based on a remembered experience, when I threw my pink Pig on a hyzer and it skipped on the ground near the basket, which in this case was not a basket at all, but a bucket we use to hold wood stove ashes that I was using as a target. The shot was from about 175 feet away, and, in the spirit of twice-or-it’s-luck, I throw my purple Pig right after that, with the same result! (I won’t mention what happened to the next shot with my green Pig…)
