Maze

“Corn by any other name…” he thought, as he confronted yet another hedge wall, the fourth in the past twenty minutes.

“If I only had an ‘i’ this would be so much easier!” he said to no one.

He grabbed another bit of Beyond Meat teriyaki jerky from the pouch his mother had given him and shoved it in his mouth. His tongue lit up at the salty deliciousness.

“Jerky from plants,” he said. “I’d never have believed it.”

Suddenly he tore the second “i” from “teriyaki” and added it to the “maze”. Almost immediately he screamed silently as he realized the flaw in his logic.

He sat down next to the wall of corn stalks and, still chewing the jerky, contemplated his next move.
